Advisor newsletter April 2010

Training

Some of Kick It’s training dates have been set for the rest of the year. We have scheduled two different types of training so far:

“Introduction to Smoking Cessation” which lasts two hours and will be taking place every month
“Stop Smoking Advisor Training” which is a full day course and will be running on 4 occasions in 2010.

If one of your colleagues would like to attend a training course please e-mail poonam.ahuja@kick-it.org.uk for dates and an application form. The 2 hour introductory course would be great for any of your colleagues that work in frontline roles as it will equip them with the knowledge and skills to talk to clients about smoking and refer them to your clinic.

Watch this space for details of forthcoming refresher training and development seminars. Our development seminar on Friday 23rd April was fully booked so it’s important to register for events asap.

Specialist Polish Service

Kick It recently launched its specialist Polish service which includes 1 to 1 and group sessions run by Polish speaking advisors. If you have any clients that would benefit from receiving their service in Polish, please refer them to www.rzucam-palenie.co.uk

Celebrity Quitters

Some of you may have seen Channel 5’s “Celebrity Quitters”, an entertaining fly on the wall documentary that tracks 5 celebrities as they try to stop smoking. The entire series is now on you tube, if you didn’t watch the series it is worth checking out; maybe also an alternative motivational tool for your clients? See http://www.youtube.com/show/celebrityquitters

Nicorette beige patches

As of November 2010, Nicorette will be discontinuing their beige patches. From then onwards all Nicorette patches will be Invisi-patches (i.e. the clear ones!).

….and finally

Did you know…..it was once thought that Tobacco had medicinal value. A French Ambassador named Jean Nicot brought Tobacco plants to Portugal in 1559, telling friends it was useful in treating wounds, asthma and cancer. The word nicotine comes from Jean Nicot’s last name. In earlier times, tobacco was called herba panacea- meaning cure-all herb. Ironic that today it is the UK’s biggest preventable killer!
