Re-lax!

Hands up if you’re all too familiar with clients saying that smoking helps them to cope with stress or relax?  For many clients inhaling on a cigarette is a moment of bliss.  Were it not for 4000 toxic chemicals this would be a good thing! To help clients find healthier ways of dealing with stress, Kick It is now providing free, guided Breathing & Relaxation sessions, in White City (Canberra Centre for Health, Mondays 5.15pm) and Hammersmith (Kick It, 7 Galena Road, Thursdays 1pm).  If any of your clients are interested in this service please refer them to Dougie  at the Kick It office by emailing dougie.slater@kick-it.org.uk or calling  020 8741 8330.

Simple & Effective

The prospects of recruiting clients can be greatly enhanced when simple but effective techniques are systematically applied.  Those pharmacies that have routinely placed a Kick It postcard into dispensing bags are certainly seeing dividends in recruitment rates.  Similarly, advisors who regularly make phone calls to lists of past or prospective patients are growing clinics.  Persistence pays!

Ramadan

A special stop smoking campaign will be conducted during the religious festival of Ramadan (August/September 2010).  Anyone interested in helping out promoting the service before, during and after Ramadan should contact Bushra.hussain@kick-it.org.uk. Kick It is looking for 4 or 5 advisor settings that clients will be signposted to during this time so please let us know if you’d like to be involved – also any thoughts on where street recruitment and outreach teams would be best located during this time would be very welcome also.

 Last Month’s Quiz

The anagram answer from May’s teaser is:  ‘Stop Smoking Start Living!’ Fulham based advisor Aileen Smith has won £30 Love2Shop gift vouchers, well done Aileen!

Doing it for Charity!

The Kick It team is keen to co-ordinate some charitable fundraising work in 2010/11.  If you have any thoughts on worthy beneficiaries, ideally local causes with a smoking related link, please do let us know by e-mailing pennia.nehanda@kick-it.org.uk

Q) The health damage from a 1 hour ‘shisha’ smoking session is the same as smoking how many cigarettes?

A) 100-200!

Shisha is a means of consuming tobacco involving filtering tobacco smoke through water. Because this process encourages smoke to be inhaled much deeper more damage is caused – despite most people thinking that shisha is a healthier form of smoking.
