Kevin had been smoking 20-40 cigarettes a day for 21 years.

He quit by attending a stop smoking group in North Fulham. He decided to quit mainly due to health reasons.

On his experience of attending a group Kevin said:

“Initially, it was great to talk to other people who were trying to quit, because we could discuss our experiences and help to motivate each other. It was nice to learn their feelings and thoughts and receive the support of others. Also, I knew that the levels of carbon monoxide in my lungs would be measured each week, so this motivated me to stay smoke-free. I gained a great sense of achievement from achieving low readings.
I was given a prescription for a drug called Champix, I took a 12 week course of medication. I still attend the group as I like to help others and they can look up to me as someone that has quit.
I had high blood pressure but this has fallen since I stopped smoking. I also have gastric problems and these have also improved. I believe it was the right time personally for me to quit.”

Since quitting Kevin has trained as a stop smoking advisor and now helps people stop smoking at a clinic at the Cassidy Road Medical Centre in Fulham.
