Stop smoking advice in the workplace

Smoking is London’s leading cause of preventable illness and mortality and a major reason for employee sickness. Helping staff stop smoking is the single most effective intervention employers can make in improving staff health and increasing productivity.

Organisations we have already helped that are already noticing the benefits of fewer sick days and smoking breaks include AOL, the BBC, Notting Hill Housing, the local Borough Council, Imperial Healthcare Trust, MIND and Riverside Studios.

Our stop smoking programme is free of charge and provides:

  • a group programme led by a trained advisor where a group of employees quit together
  • 6 weekly sessions, one hour per week at a time which does not disrupt your business (e.g. lunch breaks)
  • sessions are held at your premises and require no special facilities, just a quiet room with chairs is sufficient
  • Nicotine Replacement Therapy (eg patches and gum) or other medication (eg Champix) on prescription
  • weekly Carbon Monoxide checks to demonstrate real time health benefits
  • a 50% success rate (going “cold turkey” has a success rate of 5%)

If you require more information or you would like to register your organisation for this service please contact the stop smoking service.

MIND

Case study: MIND

Kick It recently ran an in-house stop smoking programme for employees of the mental health charity MIND.

Here’s what MIND employees thought about the programme:

“The Stop Smoking Group was a fantastic initiative with great results within H&F Mind. Nearly the entire group who started the programme were successful and this included some people who were smoking 50-60 cigarettes a day. It has made a major difference to the organisation and we really appreciate the support from the stop smoking service.”

(Paul King, Chief Executive)

“I feel like I’m getting more done at work, my children are much happier and I’m saving around £300 a month”

(Simon Read, MIND employee)

“Doing this with colleagues meant that we could support each other through it”

(Donna Cato, MIND employee)
