Hammersmith and Fulham’s NHS funded stop smoking service has been re-branded, extended and improved! As part of this process, the newly named “Kick It Stop Smoking Service” will be offering an enhanced schedule of free training. The training courses currently available are as follows:

An Introduction to Smoking Cessation

This is a “bite sized” course lasting two hours which provides an introduction to smoking cessation. Topics covered include:

  • trends and data on smoking
  • the contents of a cigarette
  • the health impacts of smoking
  • proven methods for helping smokers quit
  • using brief interventions to encourage smokers to quit
  • the local stop smoking service and making a referral

This course is open to anyone who would like to find out about smoking cessation and who would like to be able to refer people to our service.

Stop Smoking Advisor Training

A two day, certified course that provides the necessary training to be an NHS stop smoking advisor.   Prior to attending this training, please ensure that you have completed the NCSCT Stage 1 Online training as this is required in order for you to qualify for this course.

Topics covered include:

  • all topics covered in “An Introduction to Smoking Cessation
  • the 6 week NHS smoking cessation programme
  • medications to help smokers quit
  • providing support on behavioural change
  • role plays and practical tips on helping smokers

Places for this course are in high demand and as such persons interested in attending must first complete a screening questionnaire. Please note that this course is free of charge for anyone working for a health care setting in Hammersmith & Fulham. For people interested in this course who are part of a different borough or setting, this course is chargeable at £100 per person.

Specialist training & seminars

From time to time the service offers specialist training or seminars on areas of interest. Such opportunities will only be available/advertised to persons that have already attended stop smoking advisor training.

Dates for the above training courses are listed below. Once you have checked what dates you can make and chosen the course/s you would like to attend please complete and return the application form attached to this document. Once the stop smoking team has assessed your application someone will get back to you with confirmation.
